This Is What OMAD Really Looks Like (From a Working Mom Who Lives It)

A Day in My Life on OMAD•365
How one meal a day helped me lose weight, stay sane, and feel like myself again.
I used to think there was no room in my life for a lifestyle change.
Between client meetings, after-school pickups, soccer practice, and trying to make sure we didn’t run out of toilet paper, I barely had time to breathe—let alone think about dieting, working out, or meal prepping for the week.
I’m 37, a software developer in a fast-paced company, and a mom of two—my daughter is 10, my son is 12. I’m married, but like a lot of working moms, I carry the mental load of everything. I’ve got dinner meetings on my calendar and forgotten school spirit days in my inbox. Life is full. It’s good… but also a lot.
For years, I tried every kind of “healthy plan.” Smoothie cleanses. Low-carb. Intermittent fasting (the kind with eating windows and constant questions). I even paid for a macro coach who had me weighing lettuce.
Nothing stuck. Why? Because they didn’t fit my life. They were designed for people who live in spreadsheets, not real-world chaos.
Then I found OMAD•365. And it’s the first thing I’ve ever done that hasn’t felt like a second full-time job.
My Mornings: Peaceful, Light, and Clear
I wake up at 6:15—before the kids.
I used to stumble straight to the kitchen and start the day with coffee and a protein bar or some toast… and then snack while packing lunches, then finish whatever my daughter left behind on her plate. I didn’t even realize how much I was eating before 8am.
Now, I wake up and drink water. That’s it.
Just a tall glass of cold water on my nightstand, and sometimes a little pink Himalayan salt if I feel like I need a kickstart. Then I get dressed, pull my hair into a bun, and quietly enjoy a few minutes to myself while the house is still sleeping.
It sounds small, but starting the day light has been one of the biggest changes.
I’m not foggy. I’m not bloated. I’m not already on the blood sugar rollercoaster before sunrise.
I drink black coffee on the way to drop the kids off—yes, it took some getting used to without cream, but now I honestly prefer it. I feel focused, even in traffic. Like I’m already winning the day.
Mid-Morning: More Energy, Less Food Obsession
At work, I’m the only woman on a mostly-male development team. I’m good at what I do—but the environment is high-pressure. There are deliverables, code reviews, and meetings that should’ve been emails.
Before OMAD, I used to have snacks at my desk—trail mix, protein bars, those “healthy” popcorn bags. I told myself I was keeping my metabolism up. What I was really doing was eating from stress and habit.
Now, I don’t even think about food in the morning.
It’s like my brain has one less tab open. I get more done, I feel more calm, and I drink water like a queen. I’ve got a huge 40oz tumbler on my desk and I refill it twice before lunch. That’s something I never used to do.
Lunchtime: When Things Get Real
This used to be my danger zone.
People assume the hardest part of OMAD is the morning, but for me it was lunch. That’s when coworkers want to go out. That’s when DoorDash starts calling your name. That’s when I used to reach for something to “reward” myself for getting through the morning.
But here’s what changed: I started using lunch as me time. Not food time.
Instead of eating, I go for a walk around the building. I listen to a podcast or just breathe some fresh air. If I have a meeting, I join it from my phone while walking. Some days I just drink herbal tea and answer Slack messages from the quiet of my car.
And on the days I’m hungry? I just remind myself:
“You’re not depriving yourself. You’re just waiting.”
Afternoon: Where I Really Feel the Power of OMAD
Most afternoons used to be a slow collapse.
I’d eat lunch—usually something carb-heavy—and then crash around 2:30. That’s when I’d go looking for caffeine or sugar or both. I was exhausted, unmotivated, and frustrated with myself for not “eating better.”
Now? I cruise through the afternoon like a machine.
I still have long days. I still get tired. But the crash is gone. The snack cravings are gone. I feel even. And if I have a dinner meeting, I know I’m going to enjoy it fully, without guilt or restrictions.
Evenings: My One Meal—and It’s Sacred
Dinnertime is now something I look forward to all day. It’s not a guilty pleasure—it’s an earned moment of joy.
I don’t eat diet food. I eat what I want.
Sometimes it’s tacos with the kids and chips and guac.
Sometimes it’s a big bowl of pasta.
Sometimes it’s a steak and a glass of red wine.
Sometimes it’s a salad and roasted chicken because that’s what sounds good.
And sometimes, yes—there’s dessert.
But no matter what I eat, I sit down and enjoy it fully. I’m not scrolling on my phone. I’m not eating off the kids’ plates. I’m not multitasking. I’m present.
Because when you only eat once, you learn how to really savor it.
Bedtime: No More Regret, No More Bloating
This part matters more than I ever expected.
I used to lie in bed at night feeling bloated, mad at myself, thinking “why did I eat that?” or “I’ll start over tomorrow.” It was this low-grade shame that followed me around constantly.
That’s gone now.
Even when I indulge, I don’t feel guilt. I feel satisfaction.
Because I know I’ve given my body space. I know I’m not snacking at night out of habit or boredom. I know I’ve honored the rhythm.
That’s the word I keep coming back to with OMAD: rhythm.
It’s not rigid. It’s not punishing.
It’s just a flow that works.
What’s Better Now? Everything.
-
I’ve lost 22 pounds in 3 months.
-
My skin is clearer.
-
I sleep better.
-
My mental energy is sharper.
-
I’m not afraid of food anymore.
But most of all? I feel free.
Free from obsessing.
Free from guilt.
Free from the cycle of trying, failing, and starting over.
OMAD•365 isn’t a magic pill. It’s not effortless. There are days when I want to break my fast early. There are days when I feel left out. But the results—the real results—go far beyond the scale.
I show up better for my kids.
I show up better for myself.
I feel like a woman who’s in control of her body, her time, and her life again.
If You’re Wondering If It’ll Work for You…
Here’s what I’ll say:
You don’t have to be perfect. You just have to start.
Start with one decision.
One meal.
One day where you say, “I want something different.”
I thought I was too busy. Too tired. Too far gone.
But OMAD•365 met me exactly where I was—and gave me more of what I needed.
More peace.
More energy.
More space.
And for the first time in a long time… I actually like who I’m becoming.
